    Crops and Operations

A small team manages around 500 hectares of land here at Harper Adams University, the Crops and Operations sector is a busy one.

The Crops and Operations team are responsible for:

    • Producing crops and feeding them to the animal enterprises on Future Farm, the team currently produces grass silage, maize silage, and combinable crops such as Wheat and Barley.
    • Animal by-product management and the day-to-day running of the non-animal-based farm jobs which are essential in the operation of Future Farm.

The sector looks to provide relevant commercial cropping examples for student teaching, whilst considering different land management or cropping ideas that have not been adopted by commercial farmers yet.

The Crops and Operations sector are passionate to collaborate with research projects conducted by the academic staff at Harper Adams University, such as adopting more regenerative farming techniques to improve soil health and investigate the impact on crop yield. The sector is also committed in achieving the goal of Future Farm reaching net-zero by 2030.
