Weaner building 

In this building on the pig unit:

• There are two identical rooms, each with 36 small pens for 5/6 piglets for weaner trials, and seven big pens for up to 25 piglets.
• Piglets enter at about 4 weeks old, and stay for 54 days.
• They grow from 8.5 - 42 kg, and eat about 55 kg of feed each.
• They get four different diets from entry to exit, starting on cooked cereals, fishmeal and whey, and ending on raw cereals and soya.
• Fully-slatted floors maintain hygiene.
• Temperature and ventilation is controlled by a computer.
• They have a variety of toys to play with.
